e are a small family kennel dedicated to the health and preservation of the Spanish Water Dog. The Spanish Water Dog is an ancient farm dog. Also known as the Turk Andaluz, these creatures are historically (and by nature and temperament) a herding breed although the name and present breed group placements might suggest otherwise.
SWD's are active, loyal, intelligent, versatile and hardworking. More recently in addition to herding, the Spanish Water dog has functioned as a fisherman's helper-thus the modern water dog name. Even though they look cuddly and cute, they need a good consistent leader, and can be difficult for the first time dog owner. Spanish Water dog puppies require a strong and consistent program of early socialization and obedience training in order to grow up into well rounded social adults.
Checkout the Spanish Water Dog Association of America (SWDAA) and the Spanish Water Dog Club (SWD Club). Both breed clubs have websites and you will find lots of information. Do research on herding breed temperaments before you choose this breed. If after that you are still interested, this breed might be right for you.
We bred our wonderful bitch Avefaro Galleta de Ariosa ("Cookie") in early May of 2011 and she produced 10 beautiful puppies on June 29, 2011. Unfortuntely, all of the puppies are already spoken for.
Cookie is 3 and a half years old, and to my pleasant surprise, she won 2010's Best in Show at the SWDAA & SWD Club's joint Spanish Water Dog Specialty Jamboree. She has a cheerful, open temperament and has cleared the typical battery of tests: hips, elbows, eyes, thyroid, PRA, as well as donating a DNA sample to the CHIC (all results are visible on the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals under her registered name).
The litter's father is a lovely dog in New Jersey by the name of Sang's Rizo. He's a nice solid boy with all his health clearances and a herding wiz. Please feel free to check out our website and contact us for more information about this terrific breed.
